Misuse of Dowry Act- A Sad Story of a Cab driver

Today I had a conversation with my cab driver regarding marriage and he was narrating his story to me. My driver Ramesh (name changed) came to Bangalore from a remote village searching a Job. He quickly learnt driving and became a professional driver working for a MNC Company. He earned Good Money and Name.

He married to a nice girl after being in love for more than a year. Since this was love marriage her parents opposed this coz their caste were different. All went fine for four years; they were very happy with their relation ship and were blessed with a baby Boy. Ramesh sent his wife for higher studies during these four years neither of their parents came to see them nor they got any help from their relatives. On One Bad day, Ramesh had scolded his wife for some reason and left home for Duty. He came back to home only to see His wife hanging to Fan. He had no clue on what happened.

Now let me come to actual story, Ramesh In-Laws filed a Dowry case against him. In the FIR, In-Laws told to Police that Ramesh physically and mentally harassed their daughter to bring Dowry of Rs.2Lakh. For a woman’s death to be a dowry death, it must also be shown that soon before her death she was subjected to cruelty or harassment by her husband or any relative of her husband for, or in connection with, any demand for dowry. If this is proved, the woman’s husband or relative is required to be deemed to have caused her death

According to IPC Section 498a this dowry case is a cognizable and non-bailable offense, they arrested Ramesh and put him in jail. After being in Jail for 1 Year Ramesh got a Bail on submitting Bond for 1Lakh. Police seized his property. Ramesh lost all his wealth and now he is again working as a cab Driver. The Case is still pending in High Court and Ramesh is still trying to prove his Innocence. Ramesh In-Laws without knowing any information about Ramesh filed a case and screwed his life. He is staying alone and he treated as a criminal in the society.

Why do people misuse IPC 498a?

• Legal Extortion – Get-rich-quick-scheme to extort large amounts of money
• Prior Relationship – Wife has a prior relationship, and cannot get out of it. She marries to satisfy her parents, and then misuses the 498a law in order to obtain a divorce
• Adultery – Women who indulge in adultery use 498a as a bargaining tool
• Domination – Wife wants the husband to abandon his parents and siblings, and have total control over his finances and social behavior
• Custody – Deny the father and his family access to their child.
• Fraudulent Marriages – in which the bride (and her family) hides her education level or mental health; and when is justifiably asked to release the person who has gone into marriage without knowing the full facts; she files a false 498a case

Now my point of writing this article is to promote a Law for Men who has been proved Innocence by False Dowry cases. The existing laws protect a woman from cruelty and harassment by her husband and in-laws. Why does the law not provide protection to a man against cruelty and harassment by his wife and in-laws?

What I suggest to law makers

• Law should be equal to Men and Women
• When husband commits suicide because of False Cases and Torture Given by girl’s side, The Girl and her family members has to be severely punished under the same section.
• If the complainant admits giving dowry in the complaint, the courts should take cognizance of the same and initiate proceedings against them under the relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act
• Arrest under section 498a should be bailable and compoundable (i.e. the girl has to be given a chance to take the complaint back if she wishes to settle with her husband).
• When a man is arrested on dowry case he and his family members will be in news in all form of media resulting in damaging their image in this society. This has to be stopped until the case is proven.

I welcome you to suggest any other suggestions where our law makers can think about these issues and come up with law that can provide justice to both the Genders equally.

IPhone4 in India

IPhone4 is going to release in India soon as the major service provider Vodafone reveled in a press statement on June 08, 2010.This news came after Apple released the 9.3mm iPhone which is suppose to be the thinnest smart phone ever made in this world.

The Good part of this iPhone is that it has two video cameras of 5 Megapixels with built in flash. The first is on the back of the phone and other one is in front-facing camera. This camera enables users to use high quality video calling with built in Video editing options like geo-tagging.

Iphone4 comes with multitasking options which allows you to use games, video chat and any other applications simultaneously by switching between these features. According to Steve jobs Iphone4 offers a better battery life than any other phones in the market.

Improved Display with 326px per inch makes the display clear and sharp. The display glass is made harder and more scratch resistant which avoids breaks and damges.

Bandwidth Limiting On Mac

Bandwidth can be limited on Mac OS X machines using ipfw commands. This bandwidth traffic can be controlled on all the process and ports and also on specific ports. Traffic can also be controlled from source and destinations hosts.

Below are the commands used in terminal for limiting bandwidth

To limit the bandwidth for all the traffic, use:

sudo ipfw pipe 1 config bw 400kbit/s (change 400 to what ever speed you desire)
sudo ipfw add pipe 1 dst-ip 0.0.0.0/0

To liming bandwidth for specific ports, use:

sudo ipfw pipe 1 config bw 440kbit/s
sudo ipfw add pipe 1 dst-port

Examples:
sudo ipfw pipe 1 config bw 400kbit/s
sudo ipfw add pipe 1 dst-port http
sudo ipfw add pipe 1 dst-port 80
sudo ipfw add pipe 1 dst-port https

To limit for source and destination IP:

sudo ipfw add pipe 1 src-ip
sudo ipfw add pipe 1 dst-ip

Examples:
sudo ipfw add pipe 1 src-ip 192.168.1.0/24
sudo ipfw add pipe 1 dst-ip 192.168.1.0/24

You can also limit bandwidth for source and destination IP that is not yours:

Examples:
sudo ipfw add pipe 1 not src-ip 192.168.1.0/24
sudo ipfw add pipe 1 not dst-ip 192.168.1.0/24

To Flush all the rules:

sudo ipfw flush

Block Traffic on Windows Machines

Usually, for windows users there might be cases where we need to block access/traffic to certain host/servers on some ports using different protocols. This can be done by network administrator using a firewall. But these firewalls are expensive and need more configurations to perform the tasks. Also these programs need more system resources like Memory and CPU.

Microsoft provides Windows support tools for Windows XP, a command prompt based tool for advanced users to help assist users solve Network block issues. The file name is WindowsXP-KB838079-SupportTools-ENU.exe available in Microsoft Website. This tool creates IPSEC policies which can block traffic to any host and destination.

Ok enough of theory now let’s comes to practicals.Download and install windows support tools by clicking here.

Launch the Program by going to Start->All Programs->Windows Support Tools->Command Prompt. The command used is IPSECCMD.EXE.

Syntax: ipseccmd.exe –f = [destination IP]: Port : Protocol

Source ip and destination ip are the host address.
Port: port number on which the traffic is blocked
Protocol: TCP or UDP

E.g.: ipseccmd.exe –f 10.10.10.10=20.20.20.20:80: TCP

The above command will block all the TCP traffic on port 80 from 10.10.10.10 to 20.20.20.20. For removing the above rule use the command ipseccmd.exe -u

Note: In some machines the IPSEC services might be stopped, in this case you have to start the IPSEC services in windows services for this tool to work properly

Golden Temple Vellore

I got a chance to visit The Lakshmi Narayani Temple which is a golden temple located in the spiritual town SRIPURAM in ThirumalaiKkodi which is located about 7km from Vellore district of Tamilnadu. This is a must visit temple at least once in life time.

We drove on Bangalore – Chennai Highway which is one of the best highways I have seen so far. The distance was 220Km from Bangalore and we reached the temple with in 3 Hrs. After purchasing the tickets we entered the queue complex, as usual mobiles and cameras are not allowed inside the temple. We left all our belongings including the shoes in the car. We really had hard time parking the car as the distance from car parking to queue complex is about half kilometer. I felt there was less security for the temple, as the security personals were not checking in a proper way.
I was really surprised to see the exterior designed outside the temple. The surroundings of the temple were greenery. One unique design was the path way to reach the temple. This was designed in such a way that visitors can reach the Vimanam or the sanctum sanctorum only after going through a star-shaped pathway; this is the shape of Sri Chakra. When you start walking through this path way you will see boards which shows messages from Vedas on both the sides. You also get a chance to shop items related to pooja and Goddess Narayani during this path.

As soon as you enter the main temple you will surely feel a kind of positive vibes which will increase your spiritual thinking, The Idle of the goddess Narayani was really amazing, she was fully decorated with flowers and gold. The Vimanam and Ardha Mandapam have been coated with gold both interior and exterior. This Temple as been built at a cost of 300Cr which is located in a sprawling 100Acre Land with 1,500 Kg of gold sheets used.

The Vimanam (Main temple) or the sanctum sanctorum of the Goddess Narayani is surrounded by a pond. This pond has nice water. People going for Darshan throw money, Debit/Credit Cards and also visiting cards to this water. We purchased 100Rs Fast Darshan tickets, and it took 45min for the Darshan. One thing I like very much was the prasadam given to us. This was really tasteful. We were also given Pongal and good thing about this prasadam is, it will be HOT through out the day.
If you really want to enjoy the temple view, you have to visit the temple after 6PM in the evening, the darshan timings is from 8AM to 8PM. This is the time were the powerful sodium lights will be turned ON. The Temple looks like heaven under these lights. The light rays which falls on the gold plates increases the brightness of the temple which is more eye candy to watch.
